Dear AFTC Partners:
As we shared with you in the previous newsletter the middle of January Joseph Jr. (JJ), Joe & Deidrah Dodo’s 15 year old son, began vomiting blood and was rushed to the International Hospital in Kampala over 50 miles away. Urgent pleas went out for blood as the hospital and blood bank did not have any of his blood type. JJ needed blood to survive . We know the Lord touched hearts as the response was nothing short of amazing. We knew at this point that God had begun a mighty work in JJ.
JJ has now undergone 3 different surgeries to repair multiple swollen and ruptured blood vessels in his upper G I area. Before and in between surgeries JJ has needed multiple blood transfusions. After almost a month numerous tests including an MRI have revealed JJ has a Portal Vein Thrombosis. The portal vein is the major vein that connects the spleen and the live r; JJ’s is completely blocked at the mouth of the liver. It's a permanent blockage full of scar tissue. This causes the blood to back up and caused the vomiting of blood and blood in stools. JJ needs to have another surgery to bypass the blocked vein. Anot her vein will be used to bypass the portal vein and connect elsewhere so blood can begin to flow normally. This condition causes damage to the liver and the spleen and can continue to cause internal bleeding. If this is not repaired, JJ’s life will be sh ortened considerably.
The start to JJ’s first year in high school has been delayed due to his medical needs. He is disappointed but knows getting well is the priority right now. It is difficult for anyone to be ill, but it is very hard on an active 15 y ear old boy. JJ is being such a trooper and continues to be amazingly strong.
The medical expenses are high including costs for: 2 transports by ambulance, endoscopy, multiple blood transfusions, MRI, expenses for 3 surgeries and surgeons, 5 days in ICU and several more days in the hospital. And now expenses will be incurred for the upcoming bypass surgery.
Joe and Deidrah provide food, shelter, clothing, schooling and basic medical/dental for their 31 children in Jinja , Uganda from donations made by individuals such as you. Costs for circumstances such as this go outside the monthly support Joe & Deidrah receive. We are reaching out to you to prayerfully consider assisting Joe & Deidrah in covering these expenses.

Please continue to pray for JJ’s complete and total heali ng and for provision for all of JJ’s and the family’s needs. What a privilege to serve such a mighty God and those He calls to minister to His children.
